DUBAI – The United Arab Emirates’ tourism and financial hub, Dubai, has unveiled a project worth over $540 million to address the city’s escalating traffic problems. The underground loop transport system designed to significantly reduce travel times and ease congestion. The ambitious project, set to revolutionize urban mobility, will allow residents to travel across key parts of the city in just minutes. According to Dubai’s officials, the new system will drastically cut commute times, with trips like the journey from the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) to the iconic Dubai Mall taking as little as 3 minutes. The move is expected to significantly alleviate traffic pressure on major roads such as Sheikh Zayed Road, enhancing the daily commute for residents and visitors alike. The first phase of this visionary project will see the construction of a 6.5-kilometer pilot route, featuring four strategically located stations at prominent locations: Burj Khalifa, DIFC 2, Zabeel Dubai Mall Parking, and ICD Brookfield Place. The total project, once completed, will span 22.2 kilometers with 19 stations across the city, connecting key commercial and residential districts. The project is being developed in collaboration with The Boring Company, owned by American billionaire Elon Musk. With a total value exceeding $540 million, the first phase of construction is expected to be completed within a year, with the entire system anticipated to be fully operational within three years.
