Asthma patients at risk as Islamabad’s pollen count surges

With the onset of the spring season, the pollen concentrations continue to rise in different sectors of the federal capital. According to the data released by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday, the pollen count in Islamabad’s H-8 sector was recorded at 25,388 per cubic meter of air. The total pollen count in the G-6 sector was recorded at 10,449, and in the E-8 sector, it was 9,557. Similarly, the pollen count in the F-10 sector was recorded at 6,121. Islamabad’s most abundant pollen types are Paper Mulberry, Acacia, Eucalyptus, Pines, Grasses, Cannabis, Dandelion and Alternaria. Out of all these species, the Paper Mulberry has the highest pollen count, at 25,237 (considered very high). Pollen concentrations of other species are Cannabis 46 (moderate), Grasses 60 (high), Alternaria 31 (low), Pines 67 (moderate), Acacia (zero), Eucalyptus 04 (low) and Dandelion 03 (low). Doctors have advised people to take necessary precautions, such as wearing masks, to avoid health hazards.
