RAWALPINDI – The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi has rejected former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s request to undergo a medical check-up by his personal doctors. ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah was hearing the case. Advocate Faisal Malik appeared before the court to represent Imran Khan while Special Prosecutor Zaheer Shah appeared for the state. During the proceedings, the prosecution opposed the request, stating that Imran Khan is an under-trial accused in the May 9 General Headquarters (GHQ) attack case but is currently out on bail, and therefore not a prisoner. Zaheer Shah argued that the Anti-Terrorism Court does not have constitutional authority to regulate the custody of a bail-granted accused or order private medical treatment. He added that under Pakistan Prison Rules, there is no provision allowing treatment by private doctors, and the government determines the doctors for any inmate. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court dismissed the request for access to personal doctors for Imran Khan.
