KARACHI – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Wednesday announced that it would remain closed on Thursday (tomorrow), February 5, 2026, in observance of Kashmir Solidarity Day. All the banking operations across the country would also be suspended on this day, with regular services resuming on the next working day. The central bank has also issued a notification in this regard. The federal government had earlier declared a nationwide public holiday on February 5 to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day. Separately, the Punjab government announced an additional holiday on February 6 to celebrate the Basant festival. This means residents of Lahore and the province will enjoy a long five-day weekend, with the extended break covering Kashmir Day on February 5, the Basant holiday on February 6, and the regular weekend on February 7 and 8. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz highlighted the extended weekend in a post on the social media platform X, calling it an opportunity for families to spend time together during the festive period.
