BARA – The Bara Political Alliance (BPA) concluded an important jirga on Monday to address the ongoing crisis in Tirah, convened at the request of local tribal elders and representatives. The meeting focused on the situation created by provincial government mismanagement and outlined a strategy for the future. During the jirga, members strongly criticized the provincial government for administrative failures in Tirah and condemned corruption and political interference in the allocation of Rs 4 billion relief for affected families. The jirga also paid tribute to security forces for their role in maintaining law and order in the region. The agenda of the national jirga was presented by former BPA chairman Haji Shireen Afridi. The alliance expressed full solidarity, empathy, and support for all families displaced from Tirah. Haji Shireen Afridi stated that despite holding two prior jirgas with extremists, responsibility was ultimately handed to the provincial government and Tirah elders, but both attempts failed. He emphasized that the issues faced by Tirah’s affected people are not limited to a single area or tribe but constitute a national concern that cannot be delayed further. In a unanimous declaration, the Bara Political Alliance demanded the immediate restoration of complete peace in Tirah and guarantees for sustainable peace in the future. It called for an end to attacks by extremists, including firing, shelling, mortar strikes, and drone incidents, which are spreading fear among civilians. The alliance urged that the dignified return of Tirah’s displaced families be ensured and that all commitments made to them be honored both in writing and practice. It also called for impartial investigations into political interference, nepotism, administrative failures, and corruption during the registration of affected families, with responsible parties held accountable. The BPA further demanded that all residents owning homes or property in Tirah be registered as IDPs and included in relief packages. It highlighted the deteriorating law and order situation in Upper Bara and Bara Plain areas, urging emergency measures. The alliance also announced the launch of a peace campaign in Bara to provide a secure environment for residents and called on the provincial government to fulfill its constitutional responsibility to stop kidnappings for ransom, threatening calls, and other actions by extremists that create fear among citizens. The Bara Political Alliance reaffirmed its commitment to stand with the affected people of Tirah on every platform and to continue its struggle until their rights are fully secured.
