LAHORE – Deputy Commissioner of Lahore Captain (retd) Ali Ijaz has clarified that the administration will not set fixed prices for kites and “pinna”, as they are not considered a basic necessity. He, however, stated that various measures are being taken to keep the prices under control. The deputy commissioner stated that the government has granted permission for importing kites from other cities, and four districts in Punjab have also been authorized to manufacture kites. This decision is expected to increase the availability of kite-flying materials and lower their prices. In addition, a musical concert will be held at Liberty for Basant celebrations, with an open invitation for citizens to join in the festivities. Furthermore, Captain (R) Ali Ijaz has announced that strict action will be taken against motorcyclists without safety rods to ensure a safe environment for everyone during the Basant festival. Meanwhile, preparations for Basant in Lahore are in full swing, with kite and string sales soaring to over Rs 1.22 billion in just four days. According to the Kite Flying Association, the demand for kites and strings continues to rise, with both sales and purchases at their peak on the fourth day. Over 1 million kites have already been sold in local markets, and more than 20,000 pinnas were sold on the fourth day alone. The price range for thread has seen significant variation, with a 1.5 Tawa selling for Rs 700, a smaller one for Rs400. Additionally, pinnas are selling for Rs12,000 to Rs15,000.
