Basant 2026: Kites, ‘pinna’ latest prices as sale crosses Rs540 million in 3 days

LAHORE – Lahore has recorded massive sale of kites and strings or commonly known as “pinna” in three days since February 1 as the excitement surrounding the Basant festival 2026 in Lahore has reached a new peak. Reports said kites and “pinnas” worth over Rs540 million were sold from Feb 1 to 3. The day-wise sales recorded at Rs160 million on the first day, Rs180 million on the second day, and Rs200 million on the third day. According to local reports, over 500,000 kites and pinnas were sold on the third day alone. Kites, Pinna Latest Prices A 1.5 “tava” kite is being sold for Rs650, a single-tava for Rs450, and a half-tava for Rs250. Additionally, two-piece “pinna” is being sold for Rs7,000 to Rs8,000, while four-piece “pinna” is fetching between Rs12,000 and Rs15,000. The surge in demand has also led to increased activity by the Kite Association, with officials noting the growing popularity of this annual festival in the city. Free Transport Services on Basant To ease the burden of increased traffic during the celebrations, the Punjab government has announced free public transportation services for residents and tourists. This initiative aims to provide safe and convenient travel options, reduce traffic congestion, and ensure public safety. Citizens are encouraged to use public transport instead of motorcycles, as kite strings pose a risk to motorcyclists. The following services will be available free of charge during the three days of the Basant festival: Orange Line Metro Train, serving approximately 250,000 passengers daily. Metro Bus Service between Shahdara and Gajomata will also be free. Speedo and Electric Buses will operate on 24 different routes across the city, including over 200 feeder buses. Additionally, a partnership with private ride-hailing companies will provide 60,000 free cab rides and 6,000 free rickshaw rides. The Punjab Mass Transit Authority has established 24 main routes to connect key areas of Lahore, including Liberty Chowk and other event locations, to ensure smooth transport during the festive period.
