CDA, NPC launch spring tree plantation drive in Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA), in collaboration with the National Press Club (NPC), launched the Spring Tree Plantation Campaign 2026 on Tuesday, aiming to enhance green cover and promote environmental protection in the federal capital. Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) President Afzal Butt, National Press Club Secretary General Nayyar Ali, Finance Secretary Waqar Abbasi, governing body members, and a large number of journalists participated in the event, planting saplings at a site opposite the National Press Club. On this occasion, Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa, in a special talk with the media, specifically thanked the Press Club, Governing Body members and journalists for participating in the plantation campaign. He said that under the Spring Tree Plantation Campaign, local, fruit-bearing and shade-providing trees are being planted. He said that this year, a target of planting 1 million environment-friendly trees across the City has been set under the plantation campaign. Chairman CDA said that for the first time in the history of the Federal Capital Islamabad, modern technology is being utilized in the tree plantation campaign. In this regard, a formal digital tree census has been commenced in the Capital city Islamabad. He mentioned that QR codes are being affixed for better care of the planted trees. Similarly, through the QR codes, the botanical names, location and details of the institutions and individuals planting the trees will also be recorded. Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa said that the process of throwing seed balls on the Margalla National Hills is also continuing to preserve the natural beauty of the Federal ctapital Islamabad. He said that a dedicated route for environment-friendly electric buses has been launched for the journalists and media persons in Islamabad City. Modern digital bus stops are also being established for these eco-friendly electric buses. President PFUJ Afzal Butt said that we are extremely grateful to Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, who took out time to participate in the tree plantation campaign alongside journalists and media persons. He said that under the tree plantation campaign, the entire journalist community, including the National Press Club, will fully participate in this drive alongside CDA. He said that our aim is not just criticism for the sake of criticism, but we should also fully participate in positive initiatives like tree plantation. He further added, “Come! Let all the journalist community play their role and make planting saplings in the city a fashion.” Secretary General National Press Club Nayyar Ali said that the National Press Club, including all its officials and the journalist community, will play its full role in this special campaign. He affirmed that we will also ensure the care of the trees planted under this campaign.
