LAHORE – Punjab Government has declared all public transport in Lahore free for the historic Basant festival, giving citizens and tourists a safe, hassle-free way to enjoy the celebrations. The landmark initiative will run from February 6 to 8, aiming to reduce traffic chaos and ensure smooth mobility as the city prepares for the return of the beloved kite-flying festival after a long ban. Authorities are strongly advising people to leave motorcycles at home, as they are particularly vulnerable to stray kite strings, and instead take advantage of Lahore’s extensive mass transit network. Basant Travel Update Orange Line Metro Train: Expected to transport over 250,000 passengers daily. Metro Bus Service: Running along the Shahdara–Gajjumata corridor. Speedo & Electric Buses: Over 200 feeder buses covering 24 dedicated city routes. For the first time, private companies including Yango are joining the effort, offering up to 60,000 free cab rides and 6,000 free rickshaw trips for short-distance travel across the city. The Punjab Mass Transit Authority has finalized 24 major routes to ensure festival-goers can reach every corner of Lahore safely.
