Chinese team briefs CDA on robust EV charging network

A high-level meeting at the headquarters of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Tuesday highlighted significant investment opportunities for Chinese companies in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in the federal capital. The meeting held between CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa and a delegation of Chinese investors. The meeting that was also attended by the senior officials of the CDA discussed in details promotion of electric charging stations and the adoption of innovative technologies in Islamabad. CDA Chairman Randhawa said Islamabad offers immense potential for investment in EV charging infrastructure. He noted that the CDA has already formulated regulations governing the establishment of electric vehicle charging stations and that implementation of these rules is now being ensured. Dr. Khalid Hafiz, Member Planning and Design, briefed the participants on the regulatory framework. He said that under the new regulations, a minimum of three per cent of parking space in commercial buildings has been made mandatory for EV charging facilities. In addition, charging stations will be required at nearly all 138 filling stations across Islamabad. The rules stipulate that existing filling stations must install at least one electric charging point, while new filling stations will be required to set up a minimum of two charging points. The CDA chief also informed the delegation that planning is underway to establish dedicated EV charging hubs at various locations in the city to support the growing shift towards electric mobility. The Chinese delegation expressed keen interest in investing in Islamabad’s emerging EV sector and assured full cooperation in setting up charging infrastructure. The delegation also briefed CDA officials on 3D-printed housing technology, describing it as a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable solution for urban development.
