Principal Amir-ud-Din Medical College (AMC) and Lahore General Hospital (LGH), Prof Farooq Afzal, has constituted a committee to investigate misbehaviour and verbal abuse by a patient’s relatives toward a female doctor. In a formal notification, he emphasised that healthcare professionals are the backbone of the institution and that their safety remains the administration’s top priority. Prof Farooq Afzal asserted that a “Zero Tolerance Policy” regarding harassment or interference in medical duties will be strictly enforced, and those found guilty will face full legal consequences without any leniency. The three-member inquiry committee, headed by Prof Muhammad Hanif, including Prof. Khurram Saleem and AMS Security Dr Hussain Niazi, has been directed to conduct a thorough probe into the incident. The Principal has specifically instructed the committee to scrutinise the roles of the administrative doctors, security staff and other employees on duty at the time. He warned that if the investigation reveals any negligence or lack of response from the administrative staff, they will also face stern departmental action regardless of their rank.
