WASHINGTON – A Democratic lawmaker from Minnesota, Representative Ilhan Omar, has urged Senate to vote in support of a War Powers Resolution aimed at stopping the President Donald Trump’s “illegal war in Iran.” “Americans are exhausted by endless wars built on lies and paid for with American and foreign lives,” she wrote on X as escalation continues to spread following the US and Israel’s joint attack on Iran on February 28. “I’m urging my colleagues to vote YES on the War Powers Resolution authored by Khanna-Massie and stop Trump’s illegal war in Iran,” read the tweet. Ilhan Omar (@Ilhan) March 4, 2026 US Senate Vote Down Resolution Earlier, the US Senate voted down a resolution intended to limit President Donald Trump’s ability to carry out military actions against Iran, signaling a narrow congressional endorsement of a conflict initiated without formal legislative approval. The bipartisan proposal, put forward by Democrat Tim Kaine and Republican Rand Paul, sought to require the removal of US forces from hostilities with Iran unless Congress explicitly authorized the campaign. However, with Republicans holding a 53-47 majority in the Senate and mostly supporting the president’s decision to strike Iran in coordination with Israel, the measure failed by that exact margin. What the White House Says White House Press Secretary and Assistant to President Karoline Leavitt in a post on X wrote, “Under the leadership of President Trump, the rogue Iranian Terrorist Regime that sought to harm Americans is being completely crushed”. Killing these brutal terrorists is good for America. President Trump will always put the safety and security of the American people first, she added. Officials stated that the strikes were carried out in retaliation for recent actions by the United States and Israel. Among the targets were US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, according to Iranian authorities. A military spokesperson confirmed that more than 40 missiles hit designated US and Israeli sites and that 10 drones belonging to the two nations were downed. The spokesperson also issued a warning that any attempts by the US or Israel to pursue regime change in Iran could lead to strikes on Israel’s nuclear facilities. US Continues to Execute High Volume of Airstrikes The US Central Command said the US Air Force continued to execute a high volume of airstrikes into Iran. It said the US and Israeli air forces are dominating the skies over the world’s largest state sponsor of terror. In another statement, it said: “The Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group continues around-the-clock operations in support of Operation Epic Fury from the Mediterranean Sea. With another Carrier Strike Group in the Middle East, U.S. forces are squeezing Iran from the sea.” US Financial Losses in Iran War Since February 28, the United States has reportedly lost close to $2 billion in military equipment amid coordinated operations with Israel against Iran, according to data compiled by Anadolu Agency. In retaliation, Iran has targeted at least seven US military locations across the Middle East, including bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, the UAE, and Qatar, as well as US diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the UAE. Estimates indicate that US forces alone spent approximately $779 million—about 0.1% of the 2026 defense budget—within the first 24 hours of the offensive.
