Dr Tahirul Qadri cancels annual Itikaf of Ramadan 2026 in Lahore

LAHORE – Minhajul Quran founder and renowned Islamic scholar Dr. Tahirul Qadri has announced the cancellation of the annual Itikaf 2026 event in Lahore for the first time in 35 years. In a statement, Dr. Qadri explained that the decision to cancel this year’s Itikaf was based on the current national and international circumstances. He urged workers across Pakistan to observe Itikaf in their own cities and villages instead. Dr. Qadri further added that in light of the prevailing conditions, it is not feasible for a large number of participants to travel and gather in one location. He prayed for the safety of Pakistan’s citizens and its protective institutions. The Itikaf event, traditionally held under the auspices of Minhajul Quran, attracts thousands of people from Pakistan and around the world each year. What is Itikaf Muslims in Pakistan and across the world used to observe Aitkaf in the last 10 days of Ramadan every year, and during this period, they isolate themselves in mosque and end their seclusion upon sighting the moon for Eidul Fitr. The Itikaf is observed for the blessings of Almighty Allah and following the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad Sallalaho Alyhe Wasallum. Men restrict themselves to mosques, while women separate themselves from others within their homes to devote themselves to prayers.
