KARACHI – Najaf Hameed, brother of former Inter-Services Intelligence ISI chief Faiz Hameed, has found himself in the crosshairs of the Federal Investigation Agency. Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) opened high-profile corruption probe against Najaf Hameed, brother of former ISI chief Faiz Hameed, over allegations of assets far exceeding his declared income. FIA’s Anti-Corruption Cell moved swiftly, summoning records of Najaf Hameed’s assets from multiple public and private institutions. State Bank of Pakistan has also been called upon to provide details of his bank accounts, intensifying the scrutiny. Najaf Hameed’s name has now been added to the Provisional National Identification List (PNIL), and FIA teams have carried out raids at several locations in a bid to arrest him, but he remains elusive. The corruption comes on heels of a major legal setback. On Monday, a special central court in Islamabad canceled his interim bail in a fraud and land scam case after the FIA challenged it. FIA Special Judge Central Shah Rukh Arjumand ruled in favor of the prosecution, but Najaf Hameed was absent from court and could not be taken into custody. Najaf Hameed secured bail based on compromise with complainant, but FIA argued that such reconciliation-based bail should be withdrawn. During hearing on FIA’s plea, his assisting counsel requested time to submit detailed arguments, with the court adjourning the matter to February 24. The same court had granted him bail, citing a reconciliation between the parties. Najaf Hameed had also previously obtained interim bail from a local Islamabad court. Currently, Najaf Hameed faces multiple fraud-related charges in ongoing FIA cases, while this newly launched corruption investigation adds another layer of legal trouble for the brother of Pakistan’s former top intelligence official.
