Federal govt stops deportation of Indian woman who married in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD- The federal government of Pakistan has intervened to stop the deportation of an Indian woman Sarbjit Kaur, now is named as Noor Fatima, who came to Pakistan and married her chosen partner. Sarbjit Kaur, who has converted to Islam and adopted the name Noor Fatima, was recently moved from a shelter home (Darul Aman) to the residence of her husband, Naser Hussain. Noor Fatima’s case drew attention after she remained in Pakistan beyond the expiry of her Indian visa. She travelled from India on November 4 to participate in the celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak’s birthday alongside Sikh pilgrims. During this visit, she married Naser Hussain. Her visa expired on November 13, but she did not return to India, prompting authorities to consider deportation. Speaking to the media with her lawyer, Noor Fatima expressed satisfaction with her decision to live in Pakistan and stated her desire to spend the rest of her life happily in the country. She praised Pakistani authorities for their fair treatment and emphasized that she had no complaints regarding her stay. The federal government’s intervention demonstrates the country’s commitment to handling delicate matters involving foreign nationals with care, especially in cases of personal choice such as interfaith or cross-border marriages. Noor Fatima is now reunited with her husband, the case concludes on a positive note that reflected Pakistan’s efforts to balance legal obligations with human compassion in sensitive personal matters.
