PESHAWAR – The contact of the female students with the teachers has been banned in the universities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The decision has been made by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government in a bid to ensure the safety and protection of female students in universities across the province. The move comes amid growing concerns over harassment and the need for stricter campus regulations. According to an official statement, university administrations have been directed to strictly enforce codes of conduct governing interactions between faculty and students. Clear instructions have also been issued to ensure that student complaints are addressed promptly and effectively. All public sector universities in KP are now required to conduct mandatory awareness seminars on harassment. In addition, universities must hold at least quarterly workshops each year to educate students about the Protection Against Harassment Act 2010 and the relevant Higher Education Commission (HEC) policies. Following the Chief Minister’s directives, an inquiry committee has been established at Peshawar University to investigate a harassment case. The Chief Minister has also sought reports from all universities and instructed them to ensure immediate compliance with the new safety measures. The Higher Education Department has been tasked with submitting regular progress reports on the implementation of these measures to ensure accountability and continuous monitoring. Officials stated that these steps aim to create a safer academic environment for female students, strengthen institutional mechanisms to prevent harassment, and ensure swift action against any violations. By enforcing stricter policies and promoting awareness, the KP government seeks to provide female students with a secure and supportive campus environment that prioritizes their education and well-being.
