ISLAMABAD – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is set to introduce Mobile App — advanced digital systems –for clearance of the passengers in 10 seconds. The Mobile App is to streamline border management and immigration processes, including self-service e-gates at airports and a forthcoming AI-powered e-immigration mobile application. “The FIA is installing electronic gates at airports that will allow eligible passengers to complete immigration clearance by scanning their passports, bypassing traditional counters. The automated system will enter passport data directly into the IBMS, enabling full clearance in approximately 10 seconds,” said Mustafa Hameed Malik, Director of the FIA’s Integrated Border Management System (IBMS). The FIA IBMS director explained that these initiatives aim to reduce passenger waiting times, improve security, and enhance coordination among government agencies. The IBMS plays a central role in modernizing Pakistan’s immigration controls through technology-driven solutions. The agency is also preparing to launch an AI-based e-immigration mobile application to prevent illegal migration. Travelers will be able to enter personal and travel details on their smartphones, which will then be verified against official databases, including national identity card and passport records. Machine learning tools will automatically generate passenger profiles to improve risk assessment and screening at immigration points. Passengers will also have the option to provide flight numbers and ticket information in advance, ensuring their data is preloaded into the IBMS. This feature is expected to help travelers move smoothly through immigration and boarding without waiting in queues. Malik said that the FIA’s Immigration Risk Assessment Unit will continue profiling high-risk passengers, including those attempting to leave the country through illegal means such as human trafficking. He emphasized that the new systems aim to strengthen border security while offering a faster, more efficient experience for legitimate travelers.
