Flight fares surge ahead of Pakistan v India T20 World Cup match in Colombo

DUBAI – Flight ticket prices to Colombo have skyrocketed following Pakistan’s decision to lift its boycott of the February 15 match against India in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Tickets from major Indian cities to Colombo have seen fare increases of up to three times, while flights from the UAE to Sri Lanka have also surged. Prices for these flights have risen to between AED 1,900 and AED 2,400, up from the previous range of AED 1,200 to AED 1,500. Direct economy class tickets from Mumbai to Colombo, typically priced between AED 880 and AED 1,480, have now jumped to around AED 2,367 for travel between February 14 and 16. Air India and IndiGo are charging AED 4,792 and AED 3,589 respectively for these flights, while the cheapest connecting flights are now priced around AED 2,769. Flights from Delhi have also experienced significant fare hikes, with one-way economy class tickets ranging from AED 1,000 to AED 1,550. However, round-trip tickets during the match days have reached a steep AED 4,845. The surge in prices reflects the increased demand as fans anticipate the high-profile clash between Pakistan and India.
