LONDON – British Council has announced the opening of applications for its Women in STEM scholarship programme, offering fully funded opportunities for female students to pursue master’s degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in the UK. This year’s programme provides 25 scholarships for applicants from South Asia, partnering with five UK universities. Globally, 90 scholarships are available across 30 countries, continuing the initiative’s sixth consecutive year of supporting women in STEM education and leadership. Each scholarship for the 2026–27 academic year is valued at a minimum of £40,000, covering tuition fees, living expenses, travel and visa costs, health insurance, and English language support. The funding enables students to study at leading research universities and connect with global networks of STEM professionals and alumni. The programme aims to reduce barriers for women in STEM careers and encourage greater gender diversity in scientific research and innovation. Since its launch, it has partnered with 43 UK universities and supported around 500 scholars. James Hampson, Country Director of the British Council in Pakistan, highlighted the programme’s role in empowering women to become future leaders in science and technology. Dr Jen Bardsley, Global Head of Enabling Research & Science, emphasized that diverse voices in STEM lead to improved scientific outcomes and innovation. Applications remain open until late April 2026, and detailed eligibility information, including participating universities and country-specific opportunities, can be found on the British Council’s scholarship webpages. Eligible candidates are encouraged to apply early to secure their chance to study at world-class institutions in the UK. PEN’s student shines in STEM competition
