KARACHI – Gold prices in Pakistan recorded a significant increase on Tuesday after witnessing massive decline of over Rs80,000 in previous three sessions. According to Sarafa Association, the per tola price of gold moved up by Rs13,700, bringing new price to Rs504,062. The price of 10-gram surged by Rs11,745 with new rate settling at Rs432,151. The development comes amid a significant recovery in international market where the precious commodity soared by $137, taking new rate $4,813 per ounce. Market analysts said that recent prices reflect a more reasonable level, as the market has experienced unusual fluctuations in the past few weeks. They said the current recovery prices are bringing the market closer to the levels seen at the start of the second half of January. In January, the price of gold rose by nearly 13%, marking the biggest monthly increase since November 2009, while silver became 19% more expensive. However, following the nomination of Warsh, the strengthening of the dollar and the increase in margin requirements put pressure on precious metals. After Monday’s market close, the CME Group raised margin requirements on precious metal futures.
