TEHRAN – The escalating crisis after attacks by the US and Israel on Iran triggered mass exodus of Pakistani citizens, with roads becoming lifelines for desperate students, traders, and families seeking safety. For the second consecutive day, a wave of returnees poured across borders, pushing the total number of evacuees to a staggering 596 in just 48 hours. Officials revealed that on Monday alone, over 100 Pakistani citizens, including 58 terrified students from various Iranian universities made a grueling journey to Gwadar. Among them were scholars from prestigious institutions such as Zanjan University of Medical Sciences, Al-Mustafa University of Medical Sciences, and the universities of Arzangan and Kerman University of Medical Sciences. Many students described emotional departures, leaving behind studies and dreams as uncertainty grips the region. Deputy Commissioner of Gwadar confirmed that over two days, 155 individuals, including 63 students, reached safety in the coastal city. The influx through the Gabd Rimdan border crossing also included traders, pilgrims, and tourists, highlighting the widespread impact of the geopolitical turmoil. Meanwhile, on the other side of the border, 441 Pakistani nationals arrived in Taftan in Chagai District after traveling through the Iranian city of Zahedan. A significant portion of the returnees were students, 395 in total, alongside 28 traders and 18 tourists. The scene in Taftan has been described as emotional and chaotic, with families reuniting and officials scrambling to manage the sudden surge. The government of Balochistan has stepped into action. Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti announced that the safe repatriation of Pakistani citizens has officially begun, emphasizing full coordination with federal authorities. Immigration officers at border crossings are reportedly working around the clock to streamline the process and ensure humanitarian assistance. In a social media message, the Chief Minister reassured the public that efforts are being made to maintain order and efficiency at border points. Authorities have been instructed to prioritize humanitarian considerations and professional protocols to avoid any further complications. As the crisis unfolds, the mass return of Pakistanis underscores the human toll of international conflicts and the urgent need for diplomatic solutions. For now, families wait anxiously, hoping for stability and safe passage for those still abroad.
