ICC outlines semi-final venue scenarios for Men’s T20 World Cup 2026

DUBAI – The International Cricket Council (ICC) has issued a detailed clarification regarding venue allocations for the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, and outlined the multiple scenarios based on team qualification. The ICC said that the venue for Semi-final 1 would be determined by the teams that progress to the last four stage. If Pakistan qualify for the semi-finals, they would play their match on March 4 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. In another scenario, if Pakistan failed to advance but Sri Lanka secured a semi-final berth and face any opponent other than India, the match would also be held in Colombo, effectively allowing Sri Lanka to play at home under specific conditions. However, if both Pakistan and Sri Lanka were eliminated before the semi-finals, Semi-final 1 would be staged in Kolkata while the second semi-final would take place in Mumbai. The ICC further clarified that if India reached the semi-finals, they would play their match in Mumbai. In the event of a high-profile India–Pakistan clash at the semi-final stage, the fixture would be relocated to Colombo. Sri Lanka and Pakistan were currently placed in Group 2 of the Super Eight stage, making a semi-final meeting between the two sides impossible under the tournament structure. The ICC’s latest statement was being viewed as a clarification — and possible adjustment — to the schedule originally released in November, aimed at addressing logistical and competitive considerations ahead of the knockout stage.
