ISLAMABAD – Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has remained behind bars for quite some time, and rumours about his deteriorating health keep surfacing, one after another. The beleaguered party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, has now claimed that its 73-year-old founder is facing serious medical complications. According to the opposition party, Imran Khan has been diagnosed with a potentially blinding eye condition while in Adiala Jail, adding yet another layer of worry to his already fraught imprisonment. In a startling revelation, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has claimed that the ousted PM, who is currently held in Adiala Jail, has been diagnosed with a serious eye condition known as Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) in his right eye, a disorder that could permanently impair his vision if not treated. According to party, Imran Khan’s eye vein has a dangerous blockage, and doctors have warned that without prompt, specialized treatment, the former premier faces “severe risk of permanent vision loss.” The party also accused jail authorities of obstruction, saying that treatment inside the jail is impossible, as it requires an operation theater and advanced medical facilities. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan expressed deep concern over the matter, saying the inability of party workers to meet Imran Khan and his wife Bushra in jail is causing widespread anxiety. Meanwhile, family members have responded with mixed statements. Alima Khan, Imran Khan’s sister, questioned the source of the reports. on the other hand, Noreen Niazi said Imran Khan is completely healthy and accused the media of spreading deliberate misinformation. A medical team from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) conducted a full health check-up recently, which included eye, ENT, and general medicine specialists. According to jail officials, Imran Khan had previously mentioned a minor eye infection, for which PIMS doctors had prescribed medications that were provided. Overall, the doctors reportedly declared him fit and healthy. However, PTI insists that the alleged retinal vein blockage is a life-altering issue, and failure to allow treatment outside the jail could have serious consequences. The last time Imran Khan saw his personal doctor was October 2024, and a petition for regular medical check-ups has been pending in court since August 2025. Central Retinal Vein Occlusion? The Vein Occlusion occurs when a blood clot blocks the main vein of the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. This blockage can cause bleeding, swelling, and oxygen deprivation in the retina, disrupting vision. While rare in those under 60, CRVO can be triggered by high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, glaucoma, smoking, or rare blood disorders. Imran Khan’s party demanded that PTI leader be immediately allowed treatment at Shaukat Khanum Hospital or any other hospital of his choice under expert supervision, warning that if his vision deteriorates, the government and jail authorities will be fully responsible. ‘Imran Khan is Safe and Sound’: Indian Trolls push Fake News of PTI Leader’s Death in Jail
