ISLAMABAD – Friend of the Court Barrister Salman Safdar informed the Supreme Court about the health condition of PTI founder Imran Khan while he is in custody. During the hearing, Barrister Salman Safdar stated that Imran Khan has expressed serious concern over inadequate medical facilities in jail, particularly regarding his eye condition, and has requested immediate access to specialist doctors. The Friend of the Court report stated that Imran Khan has been in prison for the past two years and four months. He reported that his vision was 6/6 until October 2025, but later began to blur, gradually worsening over time. The report noted that the vision in his right eye was affected first and has since weakened further. He was informed about the possibility of a blood clot, which caused him considerable anxiety. During the meeting, his eyes were constantly watering, and he was repeatedly wiping them with tissue paper, causing him discomfort. While the PTI founder expressed satisfaction with jail security arrangements and food, he described the medical facilities as inadequate. He requested examinations either by his personal doctors, Dr. Faisal Sultan and Dr. Asim Yousuf or at least by a specialist ophthalmologist without delay. The report also highlighted the presence of mosquitoes and insects in the jail cell and recommended urgent measures to address the issue. Additionally, it suggested providing a refrigerator to safely store food, calling it a basic human necessity. Due to solitary confinement and lack of access to television, the report also recommended providing books to Imran Khan. Imran Khan entitled to equal medical facilities: CJP Afridi During the hearing, Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi remarked that Imran Khan is currently in state custody and, like all other prisoners, is entitled to equal medical facilities. However, no special privileges should be granted. Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan assured the court that access to specialist eye doctors would be provided, along with telephone contact with his children. The court directed that these measures be implemented before February 16. While access to an ophthalmologist was approved, the court rejected the request for examinations in the presence of a family member. CJP Afridi emphasized that health is the most important matter and that providing adequate medical facilities is the responsibility of the state.
