Imran Khan Wazirabad attack suspect gets four years for illegal arms

WAZIRABAD – A Wazirabad court on Wednesday sentenced Muhammad Naveed, the accused in the attack on PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, to four years in prison for illegal possession of arms. Judicial Magistrate Fazl Elahi found Naveed guilty under the Punjab Arms (Amended) Ordinance 2015. After reviewing evidence from FIR No. 742/2022, the magistrate also imposed a fine of PKR 40,000. The court directed that the sentence would run concurrently with any other punishments Naveed is serving in other criminal cases, effective from the date of his imprisonment. According to the court-issued warrant dated February 2, the Superintendent of Central Jail Gujranwala has been authorized to take Naveed into custody to implement the four-year sentence. Earlier, in April 2025, an Anti-Terrorism Court had sentenced Muhammad Naveed to life imprisonment under Section 302B of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) for his involvement in the same attack. The attack took place on November 3, 2022, during PTI’s long march in Wazirabad, when an armed assailant opened fire, injuring former Prime Minister Imran Khan, Senator Faisal Javed and several others. One PTI worker lost his life in the incident. At the time, Imran Khan accused the then PDM-led government and certain officials of being involved in the attack.
