India beat West Indies by five wickets in the Group-I T20 World Cup Super Eight match at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on Sunday night to reach the Semis. Chasing a decent 196-run target for victory, India crossed the finish line with five wickets and four balls remaining. Player of the match Sanju Samson was the highest scorer, who made an unbeaten 97 off 50 balls, hitting 12 fours and four maximums. Tilak Varma contributed a valuable 27 off 15 balls, laced with four fours and one maximum. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav made 18 off 16 balls and Hardik Pandya 17 off 14 balls, while Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan scored 10 runs each. Jason Holder and Shamar Joseph bagged two wickets each, while Akeal Hosein got one wicket. After being put into bat, the West Indies managed to reach a competitive total of 195/4 in their quota of 20 overs. Roston Chase was the top scorer with 40 off 25 balls, laced with five fours and one maximum. Jason Holder contributed an unbeaten 37 off just 22 balls, hitting two fours and three maximums, and Rovman Powell an unbeaten 34 off 19 balls with the help of three fours and two maximums.
