India may suffer big blow as ICC considers moving major events from India

2026-02-18 - 05:23

SYDNEY – The International Cricket Council (ICC) is reportedly exploring alternative host countries for major global cricket events scheduled to be held in India in coming years, due to ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. According to Australian media, the ICC is considering moving the 2029 Champions Trophy and the 2031 ICC Cricket World Cup to other nations. The report suggested that Australia could be a potential alternative host for these prestigious tournaments. The move comes as political and diplomatic tensions in the region, including the impact on Bangladesh’s participation, have raised concerns about the feasibility of holding international cricket events in India. The decision to reassess the host nations for these events is reportedly driven by the challenges posed by strained relations between India and its neighbors, making it difficult to ensure the smooth execution of major cricket tournaments in the region. Given the current situation in the subcontinent, the ICC is exploring all options to ensure that upcoming international tournaments are not affected by regional conflicts. The ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 matches are held in India and Sri Lanka.
