TEHRAN – A US defense website has claimed that evidence has begun to emerge regarding the delivery of Russian-made Mi-28 Havoc attack helicopters to Iran. A video has recently been circulating on social media showing a Russian-made Mi-28NE helicopter flying over Tehran, the capital of Iran. The report adds that last week, images were also shared on social media, showing at least one Mi-28NE helicopter in Iran. However, it clarified that the video could not be independently verified regarding when and where it was recorded. The defense website speculates that the initial images were likely taken at a hangar of the Pars Aerospace Services Company located at Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport. Additionally, on January 3, Iranian journalist Mohammad Taheri posted on the social media platform X, in Persian, about Iran’s military capabilities, alongside an image of a Mi-28 helicopter in desert camouflage. The Mi-28 attack helicopter is equipped with a 30mm automatic cannon and can be fitted with various weapons, including anti-tank missiles and rockets. It also features advanced sensor systems, including mast-mounted radar and a forward-facing infrared camera. The experts suggest that the potential presence of Mi-28 helicopters in Iran may signal further deliveries of weapons and military equipment from Russia. The report also mentioned that during January, online flight tracking data revealed at least five flights of Russian Il-76 transport aircraft from Russia to Iran. Following its recent 12-day conflict with Israel, Iran is reportedly seeking to bolster its military reserves and the potential supply of Mi-28 helicopters is seen as part of this strategy. The website concluded that, based on available evidence, at least one Mi-28 helicopter has likely arrived in Iran, with more details expected to emerge in the coming days.
