TEHRAN – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that it could block the Strait of Hormuz and stop oil shipments, declaring that “not a single drop of oil will pass” through the vital waterway if pressure on the country continues. The IRGC said that Iran may take strict measures, including closing the Strait of Hormuz, if the United States or its allies intensify pressure in the region. Iranian officials also claimed that their full military capabilities have not yet been demonstrated, noting that their strength goes beyond the missiles and drones currently deployed at sea. Meanwhile, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said the US Navy would soon begin providing security to commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz to ensure that global trade remains unaffected. His statement came amid rising tensions in the region and concerns about potential disruptions to one of the world’s most important oil transit routes. Reacting strongly to the US plan to protect commercial shipping, the IRGC challenged Washington’s move and warned that Iran would respond if its interests were threatened. In a separate development, the reports emerged of an oil leak from a cargo tanker near a port in Kuwait following an explosion. However, initial reports indicated that the ship’s crew remained safe. Strait of Hormuz is one of the most critical maritime chokepoints for global oil transportation, with a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passing through it daily. Any closure or disruption in the strait could have serious consequences for global markets, international trade, and oil prices.
