TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned the United States of serious consequences following an alleged attack on an Iranian naval frigate, claiming the vessel was targeted far from Iran’s territorial waters. Speaking on the incident, Araghchi said the frigate “Dena” was hosting members of the Indian Navy as guests and had approximately 130 sailors on board at the time of the attack. He alleged that the United States targeted the vessel nearly 2,000 miles away from Iran’s coastline, calling the action an act of aggression. According to the Iranian foreign minister, the sailors aboard the frigate fell into the sea without any prior warning after the attack. “Mark my words, the United States will deeply regret this action,” Araghchi said while condemning the strike. The incident follows reports that the US Navy targeted a Sri Lankan naval vessel returning from naval exercises in India, resulting in heavy casualties. According to preliminary reports, at least 80 Iranian military personnel have been killed in the strike. Strait of Hormuz tensions push oil prices higher Meanwhile, tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate following US and Israeli attacks on Iran, leading to the closure of the strategic waterway, the Strait of Hormuz. The United States has so far failed to wrest control of the Strait of Hormuz from Iran, according to reports, causing concerns in global energy markets and pushing crude oil prices upward. International media reports said Brent crude oil prices rose by 2 percent to $84 per barrel, while WTI crude is currently being traded at around $77 per barrel. Iran vows continued retaliation A spokesperson for the Iranian government said the United States and Israel had “miscalculated” by launching attacks against Iran. “They made a mistake that should not have been made,” the spokesperson said, adding that Iran had already inflicted serious damage on its enemies. The spokesperson further stressed that the Iranian government remains determined to continue inflicting losses on its adversaries, signaling the possibility of further escalation in the region.
