Abdul Hadi Mayar Islamabad Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza AmiriMoghadam has appreciated Islamabad’s mediators efforts to end the US-Iran conflict but said that success of any such effort depends on the behavior of the opposite side. Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Thursday evening, he said Iran does not want war but will defend itself if a war is imposed on it. “We are thankful to the Government, people and media of Pakistan for extending full support to Iran in the present difficult circumstances,” Moghadam said. He added that Iran and Pakistan are in constant contact with each other and have closer mutual collaboration. To a question, the Ambassador said Tehran also has closer collaboration with Saudi Arabia and other Islamic countries but it would not call a meeting of the OIC at the present moment. He repeatedly asserted that Iran does not want any conflict but is fully prepared to defend itself. Answering another question, Moghadam said countries in the Persian Gulf region have assured Iran that they would not allow their soil to be used against Iran by any other country. However, he categorically said that Iran would target any point from where it is attacked. Giving details of the current situation and the recent prrotest demonstrations in Iran, the Ambassador said the United States and the Zionist regime hatched a nefarious conspiracy against the Islamic Republic but the Iranian government did not allow the conspiracy to succeed. He said President Trump, former US Secretary of State Mike Pompio and the Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu tried their best to instigate the peaceful demonstrators in Iran to commit violence but the Iranian police and security forces handled the situation successfully. He added that no force was used against peaceful demonstrators and steps were taken to meet their demands but the miscreants were met with an iron hand. The Ambassador expressed hope that good sense and sanity would prevail with the United States and Israel but if they opt to impose a war, then Iran will fully defend itself. To a question, the Ambassador said Iran did not expect its friends to openly support it in the event of a war but they should whatever they find appropriate.
