Iranian reaction

2026-03-20 - 00:01

IT seems Iran is steeply falling into the Israeli trap aimed at entangling other regional countries in the ongoing conflict as its reaction is what the Jewish State provokes it to do, of course, with tacit approval of the United States. In response to Israeli attacks on its largest gas field, Iran targeted a similar gas field in Qatar and launched missiles and drones towards Saudi Arabia, which were successfully intercepted. Iran has its own war strategy but there are reasons to believe that repeated attacks on the neighbouring countries could compound its woes in the days to come. It is significant to note that Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar strongly condemned Israeli attacks on Iranian oil and gas facilities, terming them as dangerous and irresponsible. Tehran needs to review its strategy as there are limits to patience as highlighted by the statement of Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud who said the Kingdom reserves the right to take military action against Iran. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has warned of the risk of uncontrollable consequences of attacks on energy infrastructure and this is becoming a reality as prices of oil and gas have gone up further and extensive damage to infrastructure means supply constraints for longer times, with serious consequences not only for economies of the regional countries but also other states of the world. French President Macron’s call for a moratorium on strikes targeting energy and civilian infrastructure must be heeded to by the two sides before the world is pushed to a virtual economic catastrophe.
