ISLAMABAD – Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi revealed that former Prime Minister Imran Khan will be transferred to newly constructed Islamabad jail once it is completed. Speaking to journalists, Naqvi said the jail is expected to be ready within two months, and will offer all modern facilities, including eye treatment and medical care, ensuring high-standard accommodations for inmates. “Since Imran Khan’s sentence was issued by an Islamabad court, he will be shifted to Islamabad jail,” Naqvi confirmed, signaling a major development in the high-profile case. Khan is facing severe health crisis behind bars, the Supreme Court revealed earlier this week. A court report claims that the ex-premier now has only 15% vision in his right eye, raising serious concerns over alleged medical neglect in Adiala jail. Supreme Court urgently ordered special medical team to examine his eye and directed that he be allowed to speak with his children, with both steps to be completed by February 16. The orders come amid growing scrutiny of his living conditions and the treatment he has received while incarcerated. Khan told PTI lawyer Salman Safdar that he experienced a rapid and painful loss of vision, after being diagnosed with a blood clot. Despite treatment at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), including an injection, he is left almost blind in one eye. Safdar described the former PM as visibly distressed and in physical discomfort during their meeting. The SC rejected requests to conduct the eye examination in front of family members but acknowledged the critical importance of his health and communication with children. Reports from both the lawyer and jail officials indicate that while facilities are adequate, Imran’s medical needs were largely ignored, with repeated requests for blood tests, personal physician access, and dental care denied over months. Imran’s family members condemned treatment, calling it a direct result of solitary confinement and deliberate medical neglect, and accused the authorities of being responsible for his father’s deterioration. He warned that history will judge this injustice and called on human rights organizations and democratic nations to intervene.
