Islamabad, Pakistan Weather: More rain, snowfall expected

More rain is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and parts of Pakistan on Monday evening and night, as well as on Tuesday, with occasional breaks. Moderate to heavy snowfall is also expected in the hilly areas of the country during the period. Synoptic Situation: According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly wave prevails over the western parts of Pakistan. It will likely persist over the upper parts till tomorrow. Forecast: Under these conditions, rain with snowfall over the hills is expected in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday evening and night. Heavy rain with moderate to heavy snowfall is likely at isolated places in South/Northeast Balochistan, Kashmir and Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Rain with snowfall is expected at isolated places in southern Punjab and upper Sindh. Rain with winds is likely in the Twin Cities and upper/central Punjab. On Tuesday, rain with snowfall is expected in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Upper Punjab. Heavy rain with moderate to heavy snowfall is also likely at isolated places in Kashmir and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Cold and dry weather is likely in other parts of the country. Heavy snowfall may cause road closures/ slippery conditions in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galiyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, Haveli, Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Noushki, Harnai and Zhob. There are possibilities of landslides/avalanches in hilly areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during the period. Tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period. Temperatures: Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 02°C and 04°C on Tuesday and between 03°C and 05°C on Wednesday. Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 06°C and 08°C on Tuesday and between 07°C and 09°C on Wednesday. Past Weather: Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country, while freezing weather prevailed in hilly areas during the last 24 hours. Rain and snowfall occurred at a few places in northeastern/western Balochistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Minimum temperature in Kalam and Ziarat was recorded at -08°C, in Astore, Gupis and Parachinar at -07°C, in Malam Jabba, Kalat and Rawlakot at -05°C, in Nathia Gali at -04°C. In Islamabad, the minimum temperature was recorded at 06°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 93 per cent. In Rawalpindi, the minimum temperature was recorded at 07°C.
