Islamabad, Pakistan Weather: Rain, isolated hailstorms expected

Intermittent rains with isolated hailstorms are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Monday and Tuesday. Snowfall is also expected in the hilly areas during the forecast period. Synoptic Situation: According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly wave is likely to approach the western parts of Pakistan tonight. It is expected to grip the upper parts tomorrow and may persist till February 10. Forecast: Under these conditions, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of Pakistan on Sunday night. Freezing weather is expected in hilly areas. Partly cloudy to cloudy weather with light rain and light snowfall is likely at isolated places in northern/western Balochistan. On Monday and Tuesday, cloudy weather with rain is likely in Balochistan and lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Rain with snowfall over the hills is expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. Rain is expected in the Pothohar region and central Punjab during the evening/night. Hailstorms may also occur at isolated places during the period. Impacts: Snowfall is likely to cause traffic disruptions & slippery conditions in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galiyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch and Haveli. Landslides may occur in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during the period. Temperatures: Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 02°C and 04°C on Monday and Tuesday, and between 02°C and 04°C on Wednesday. Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 05°C and 07°C on Monday and Tuesday, and between 04°C and 06°C on Wednesday. Past Weather: Cold and dry weather prevailed in most parts of the country during the last 24 hours. Freezing weather prevailed in the upper parts. Leh remained the coldest place in the country, where the temperature dropped 11°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Kalam and Astore was recorded at -07°C, and in Gupis, Hunza, Malam Jabba and Skardu at -03°C. In Islamabad, the minimum temperature was recorded at 04°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 37 per cent. In Rawalpindi, the minimum temperature was recorded at 06°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 37 per cent.
