Intermittent rain is likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and parts of Pakistan on Monday and Tuesday. Moderate to heavy snowfall is also expected in the hilly areas of the country during the period. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly wave will likely approach southwestern Balochistan tonight. It will likely grip the western and upper parts of the country on Monday. Under these conditions, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country and freezing and partly cloudy in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan on Sunday night. Cold winds are also likely in most parts of the country. However, partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorm and snowfall is likely in southwestern Balochistan. On Monday and Tuesday, cloudy weather with intermittent rain and snowfall is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan and upper Punjab. Heavy falls with moderate to intense snowfall are also likely in hilly areas. Rain is also likely in South Punjab and upper Sindh during the period. Heavy snowfall may cause road closures/ slippery conditions in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galiyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, Haveli, Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Noushki, Harnai and Zhob. There are possibilities of landslides/avalanches in hilly areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during the period. Tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period. Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 0°C and 02°C on Monday and Tuesday and between 01°C and 03°C on Wednesday. Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 04°C and 06°C on Monday and Tuesday and between 05°C and 07°C on Wednesday. Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country, while freezing weather prevailed in hilly areas during the last 24 hours. Leh remained the coldest place in the country, where the temperature dropped 14°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Astore, Kalam and Nathia Gali was recorded at -09°C, in Kalam, Parachinar and Kalat at -08°C, in Gupis at -07°C, in Malam Jabba at -06°C, and in Skardu and Quetta at -05°C. In Islamabad, the minimum temperature was recorded at 01°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 41 per cent. In Rawalpindi, the minimum temperature was recorded at 05°C.
