Justice for Kashmiris, now

2026-02-04 - 23:36

KASHMIR solidarity day is being observed today, a poignant occasion that resonates deeply with the aspirations of millions of Kashmiris who continue their struggle for the inalienable right to self-determination. This day is a reminder of Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the Kashmir cause, highlighting not only the sacrifices of the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) but also the responsibility that rests on the shoulders of the international community, especially the United Nations, to fulfill the promises made to the Kashmiri people. For decades, the people of Kashmir have endured immense suffering in their pursuit of freedom and justice. Despite the passage of time, their demand for self-determination remains as relevant and urgent as ever. On this day, we stand in solidarity with them, not only to pay tribute to the countless martyrs who have laid down their lives but also to amplify the call for justice that echoes across the valleys of Kashmir and beyond. The atrocities committed by Indian forces in IIOJK continue to be a grim reminder of the immense human cost of the unresolved Kashmir dispute. From extrajudicial killings to the widespread use of pellet guns, enforced disappearances and torture, the oppression faced by Kashmiris is not just a violation of their human rights but a direct affront to the principles of justice and dignity. The international community cannot afford to ignore these abuses any longer. Today, more than ever, the world must take notice of the suffering in Kashmir and act to bring an end to the injustice. Kashmir dispute is one of the most significant geopolitical challenges in the world today. The region remains one of the world’s most dangerous nuclear flashpoints, where any escalation could have catastrophic consequences. It is, therefore, incumbent upon influential global powers, particularly the United States, to take an active role in facilitating the resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. As we observe Kashmir Solidarity Day, let us renew our pledge to stand with the Kashmiri people in their struggle for justice, dignity and freedom. Their cause is not just Pakistan’s cause, but a global cause. The struggle for self-determination in Kashmir is a struggle for the very principles of human rights and democracy. It is high time that the world comes together to ensure that the people of Kashmir are allowed to shape their own future, free from oppression, free from violence and free from injustice.
