Karachi announces traffic plan for Eidul Fitr shopping

KARACHI – The Karachi Police have announced a traffic management plan to avoid congestions as shopping spree for Eidul Fitr 2026 put extra burden on roads across the city. DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah said section officers and traffic staff have been deployed in various districts from 7 pm daily until business activities in shopping centers and markets conclude at night. Additional police personnel will be stationed on key roads and busy markets during the Eid shopping period. Several traffic restrictions and diversions have been put in place: From Allah Wali Chowrangi to Ittihad Signal, rickshaws and taxis are prohibited. Commercial vehicles are directed to use routes via Noorani Signal, Medi Care, and Shaheed-e-Millat Road. Traffic from Drigh Road can access Nepa via Millennium Bridge; rickshaws and taxis are not allowed under the bridge. In case of congestion at Haidri Market, commercial traffic from North Karachi can use Five Star Chowrangi to Shaare Noor Jahan and Landhi Kotli Chowrangi. Traffic from Board Office can take routes via D.A. Chowrangi, Ziauddin Chowrangi, and Shaare Noor Jahan. Rickshaws and taxis are prohibited from Fawara to GPO and from Singer Chowk to Zain-ul-Nisa Street; these vehicles should use MR Kiyani Chowk, Sarwar Shaheed Road, Coast Guard, Regal, or Tibet Center routes. From Tibet Chowk to Eidgah Chowk, rickshaws and taxis are not allowed. Vehicles can use Urdu Bazaar to Court Road Chowk or Fresco Chowk. In case of congestion, Clifton Bridge to Teen Talwar, Race Course, or Chaudhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman Road can be used. On Main Rashid Minhas Road, rickshaws and taxis are prohibited; these vehicles should use Safraz Ghori Road via Sajan Kanta. Illegal rickshaw and taxi stands around all supermarkets will be removed. The traffic department urged residents and commuters to follow these arrangements for smooth movement during the Eid shopping period.
