Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Weather: More rain, heavy snowfall expected

More rain is expected in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday evening and night, with occasional breaks. Moderate to heavy snowfall is also expected in the upper districts during the period. Synoptic Situation: According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly wave prevails over the upper parts of Pakistan. It will likely persist over the northern parts till tomorrow. Forecast: Under these conditions, more intermittent rain with snowfall over the hills is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kurram, Khyber, Mohmand and Bajaur on Tuesday evening and night. Heavy rain with moderate to heavy snowfall is also likely during the period. Cloudy weather with isolated rain may also occur in Haripur, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Malakand, Mardan, Kohat and Waziristan. On Wednesday and Thursday, cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the province, while freezing weather is expected in the upper districts. Cold winds are also expected in most districts during the afternoon. Cloudy weather with isolated light rain/snow is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Kohistan and Battagram. Impacts: Heavy snowfall may cause road closures/ slippery conditions in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, and Galiyat. There is a possibility of landslides/avalanches in the hilly areas of Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the period. Tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period. Temperatures: Peshawar’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 05°C and 07°C on Wednesday and Thursday. Past Weather: Widespread rain with snowfall over the hills occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours. Minimum temperature in Kalam was recorded at -05°C, in Dir at -03°C, and in Chitral at -01°C. In Peshawar, the minimum temperature was recorded at 07°C.
