Light to moderate rain is likely in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday and Sunday, with occasional breaks. Light to moderate snowfall is also expected during the forecast period. Synoptic Situation: According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a shallow westerly wave will likely approach the western and upper parts of Pakistan tonight. It will likely persist till February 3. Forecast: Under these conditions, cold and dry weather is likely in Peshawar and most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday night. On Saturday and Sunday, intermittent rain with snowfall over the hills is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Kohistan, Bunner, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mardan, Peshawar, Kohat, Kurram and Waziristan. Impacts: Rain and snowfall may cause slippery conditions in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, and Shangla. There are possibilities of landslides/avalanches in the hilly areas of Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Tourists are advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period. Day temperatures are likely to drop during the period. Temperatures: Peshawar’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 05°C and 05°C on Saturday and between 06°C and 08°C on Sunday. Past Weather: Cold and dry weather prevailed in Peshawar and most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours. Freezing weather prevailed in the upper districts. Kalam remained the coldest place in the province, where the temperature dropped 08°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Malam Jabba was recorded at -05°C, in Parachinar at -04°C, in Chitral at -03°C, and in Dir at -02°C. In Peshawar, the minimum temperature was recorded at 06°C.
