Lahore manhole deaths: Court approves 4-day physical remand of accused

LAHORE: A local district and sessions court on Saturday approved a four-day physical remand of the accused in the case of a mother and daughter who died after falling into an under-construction sewer line on Wednesday. In a court order seen by Dawn, the investigating officer (IO) was directed to also investigate the case “on the aspect of contributory negligence of officers/officials of Wasa (Water and Sanitation Agency) and the civil administration as well responsible to look after the ongoing construction project at the place of occurrence”. The police had requested a 14-day physical remand of the accused; however, Judicial Magistrate Shafqat Abbas approved a four-day remand. More to follow
