Lebanon to take Israeli chemical spraying to international forums

BEIRUT – Lebanon decided to raise Israeli chemical spraying in border areas at international forums, terming the alleged action a serious threat to public health, agriculture and the environment, the international media reported on Saturday. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun accused Israel of using aircraft to spray toxic chemical substances, including glyphosate, over areas in southern Lebanon. He said the alleged spraying has caused environmental damage and poses long-term risks to human health and agricultural activity. The Lebanese leadership has described the alleged act as an “environmental and health crime” as well as a violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and international law. The Lebanese government has confirmed that it has begun preparing documented complaints and pursuing legal action to present the case before international platforms, including relevant United Nations agencies and the UN Security Council. In 2024, over 180 people were martyred and hundreds others fell injured in Israeli attacks in the Southern part of Lebonon. The children, women and medical personnel were among those who lost their lives. Israeli military to issue evacuation warnings for civilians in affected areas. Israel attacked Lebonon after it accused Hezbollah of attacks.
