PUNE – The deputy chief minister of India’s western state of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, was killed on Wednesday as his plane crashed during landing attempt in Baramti region of Pune on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred when a chartered plane Learjet 45, which had taken off from Mumbai, lost control during an emergency landing attempt around 9 am, just one hour after takeoff. The crash resulted in the death of Pawar, two pilots, and another individual onboard. Pawar was traveling to attend a public meeting in Baramati during the ongoing district and panchayat elections in the region.
