MCB Bank, The Educators, Malmo among 113 sealed in Lahore

MCB Bank, Soneri Bank, United Bank Limited, The Bank of Punjab and Bank Alfalah were among 113 illegal commercial buildings sealed in different areas of Lahore yesterday. Besides these, the sealed premises also included The Educators, Malmo Bakers & Sweets, High Class Bakers, New Pharmacy, Al-Nafey Hostel, private clinic, grocery stores, food points, workshops, offices and other businesses. During operations against illegal commercial buildings and nonpayment of commercialisation fees, the Lahore Development Authority’s Town Planning Wing sealed 23 buildings in Engineers Town, 20 in Gulberg and Shadman, 45 in New Muslim Town and on Chah Miran Road, and 25 in Subzazar Housing Scheme and LDA-controlled areas. Meanwhile, LDA teams demolished nine buildings in Johar Town and private housing schemes for violations of bylaws. LDA Chief Town Planner I, Assad-uz-Zaman, and Chief Town Planner II, Azhar Ali, supervised these operations carried out by the enforcement and security teams with the assistance of the Police and heavy machinery. According to LDA officials, several notices were served on the owners of these buildings before the operations were carried out. LDA Director General Tahir Farooq has directed the continuation of indiscriminate operations against violations of building bylaws, encroachments, illegal commercial use and nonpayment of commercialisation fees in Lahore’s housing schemes and LDA-controlled areas.
