Meta has announced plans to introduce premium subscription models for its popular apps, including Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, aiming to offer enhanced features and improved artificial intelligence (AI) tools to paying users. A company spokesperson confirmed that the new subscription plans are currently being tested. These plans will provide users with advanced AI capabilities, including exclusive access to short AI-generated videos and other features under Meta’s Vibes service. Meta recently acquired the AI agents suite Manus, which will also be integrated into the subscription offerings. In addition, the company is developing open-source AI models under the name LLaMA, which will remain free to access, while subscription users will benefit from additional premium features. The new subscription plans will be separate from Meta Verified, the company’s verification service launched in 2023 that allows users to obtain a blue tick and access other benefits. The spokesperson added that Meta will roll out these subscription plans to all users after the initial testing phase, taking feedback from early users into account to refine the offerings. The move is seen as part of Meta’s strategy to diversify its revenue streams while expanding the functeionality of its apps for paying users.
