Mobile-based application software demanded for Punjab hospitals

Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has demanded the introduction of a mobile-based application software system in government teaching hospitals to improve patient records, medicine supply management, laboratory testing, and admission and discharge processes. Dr Shahid Malik, PMA President, stated that in the past, billions of rupees were spent on hardware and conventional software, yet due to poor planning and inefficient systems, these facilities failed to deliver long-term benefits. He said that in many hospitals, expensive computers, printers, and other equipment become non-functional within a short period, resulting not only in financial loss to the national exchequer but also serious inconvenience for patients and healthcare staff. In contrast, a mobile-based system could prove to be cost-effective, faster, and more reliable. PMA proposed the development of a centralised and secure mobile application that can be linked with the mobile phones of doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff so that patient admissions, discharges, medication entries, laboratory reports, and follow-up records can be updated in real time. This step would enhance transparency, reduce costs, and ensure the timely delivery of healthcare services. Dr Malik urged the government and relevant authorities to adopt modern digital technologies and implement a durable, secure, and user-friendly system in hospitals to bring real improvement in the healthcare sector.
