NAB Chairman Lt Gen (Retd) Nazir Ahmed gets three-year extension

ISLAMABAD – The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified a three-year extension in tenure of National Accountability (NAB) Chairman Lt Gen (Retd) Nazir Ahmad. “In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 6(b)(v) of the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999, the Federal Government is pleased to extend the tenure of Lt. Gen (Retd) Nazir Ahmad as Chairman, National Accountability Bureau, for a further period of three years w.e.f 06.03.2026 on existing terms and conditions,” read the notification. President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday approved the NAB (Amendment) Bill, 2026, allowing the term of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairperson to be extended by an additional three years. The approval came shortly after the bill was expedited through both houses of Parliament, despite protests from the opposition, and just a day before the current NAB chairman, Lt. Gen. (Retired) Nazir Ahmad, was due to complete his term.
