New Zealand thrashed Sri Lanka by 61 runs in a Group-II Super Eight stage match of the T20 World Cup in Colombo on Wednesday. Chasing a decent 169-run target for victory, Sri Lanka kept losing wickets at regular intervals and ended up at 107/8 in the allocated 20 overs. Kamindu Mendis was the top scorer with 31 off 24 balls, followed by Dunith Wellalage, who made 29 off 23 balls. Kusal Mendis contributed 11 off 22 balls and Pavan Rathnayake 10 off 18 balls. Rachin Ravindra bagged four wickets and Matt Henry two, while skipper Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips got one wicket each. Rachin Ravindra was named player of the match for his valuable contributions both with the bat and ball. After being asked to bat first, New Zealand posted 168/7 in their quota of 20 overs. Mitchell Santner was the highest scorer with 47 off just 26 balls, laced with two fours and four maximums. Rachin Ravindra made 32 off 22 balls, hitting three fours and one maximum. Cole McConchie contributed a valuable 31 off 23 balls with the help of three fours and two maximums. Finn Allen made 23 off 13 balls and Glenn Phillips 18 off 18 balls.
