ISLAMABAD – The federal capital has announced expanding the M-Tag drive by extending it to motorcycles as earlier it was mandatory for all vehicles. The next phase of issued M-Tags to motorcycles will start from February 20, 2026. The motorcycle owners will be able to obtain the tags from 10 am on the scheduled date. Documents Required for Motorcycle M-Tag To obtain the M-tag, motorcycle owners must bring the necessary documents, including their motorcycle’s papers and personal identification card. This initiative will apply to all types of motorcycles, including regular bikes, bike taxis, heavy bikes, and other motorized two-wheelers. So far, more than 600,000 vehicles have been equipped with M-tags, and the installation process is ongoing across 13 locations in the city. The Excise Department has expanded its vehicle registration centers in Islamabad, increasing the number of locations from 19 to 24 to make the process more accessible for vehicle owners, according to the ICT administration spokesperson. The expansion has significantly cut down waiting times and enhanced service coverage across different parts of the city. Out of these 24 centers, two are operational 24/7, and two more provide round-the-clock services to ensure citizens can complete their registration without delays. Officials stated that obtaining an M-Tag is now compulsory for all vehicles operating within the capital. In addition to registrations, ongoing field operations are targeting vehicles without M-Tags. Special teams are actively conducting checks at key roadways and entry points to enforce compliance. To support this initiative, modern M-Tag readers have been installed at major highways and checkpoints. These advanced devices allow authorities to quickly identify registered vehicles and track those without M-Tags, improving traffic monitoring and rule enforcement.
