Official schedule for Eidul Fitr 2026 holidays announced

LAHORE – The University of Punjab has officially announced a schedule for Eidul Fitr 2026 and Spring holidays with the break starting from March 20 (Friday). “It is hereby notified that the University of the Punjab will remain closed from Friday, 20th March, 2026 to Monday, 23rd March, 2026 on account of Eidul-Fitr Holidays,” read the official notification. Furthermore, University Teaching Departments, Institutes, Centres, Constituent Colleges and Schools will remain closed from Tuesday, 24th March, 2026 to Friday, 27th March, 2026 on account of Spring Recess and will re-open on Monday, 30th March, 2026, it added “However, administrative staff (Teaching Departments, Institutes, Centres, Constituent Colleges and Schools) will remain on duty as usual after Eld-ul-Fitr holidays w.e.f. 24 March, 2026,” the notification concluded. Eid Fitr Moon 2026 Update There is no possibility of sighting the new Moon of Shawwal 1447 AH anywhere in Pakistan on March 19, 2026, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). Therefore, Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to be observed across Pakistan on March 21, 2026. The PMD has predicted that the new moon of Shawwal 1447 AH will be born at 06-23 PST on 19-03-2026. The age of the moon at meteorological observatories is calculated between 12 and 13 hours, which is not favourable for moon sighting. As per astronomical analysis, there is no chance of sighting the new moon of Shawwal 1447 AH on the evening of 19-03-2026 (i.e., on 29th Ramzan 1447 AH). As per the PMD, the prediction is based on astronomical analysis. However, the final decision regarding the declaration of a new moon rests with the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan.
